natural mosquito repellent

It is mosquito central here, so I am covered from head to toe with repellent any moment spent outdoors. I decided to give making my own a try, since I love the idea of know everything that goes into it. Also, Rowan HATES it when I spray anything on him. He squirms and runs and screams. I need a safe option since half the time the stuff is getting sprayed near his face.

I tried this recipe at DIY Natural which uses a combination of essential oils, vodka and almond oil. It worked well, plus it smells delightful. You can also use dried herbs to make your repellent. It super easy but does involve letting it rest for 6 weeks.

Lavender Mosquito Repellent

1/5 part dried lavender flower in 4/5 part vodka.  Let it sit in a dark place for six weeks. Strain out lavender.  Add 50% spring water. Add to a spray bottle.
