lemon sugar scrub thank you gift

It is pretty gratifying to make pretty things and then give them away. You can say thank you by shooting an email or text, or you can knock on a good friends front door and hand over something homemade. I have done both, but this handmade version was far more satisfying and fun.

This weekend, I wanted to say thank you to a kind neighbor. I made this simple recipe for sugar scrub and designed a card to deliver in person. Rowan helped out too, and proudly handed over the package.

Lemon Sugar Scrub

1/2 cup organic coconut oil
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup salt
lemon zest from one lemon
10 drops of lemon essential oil

Combine all of the ingredients in a glass bowl and stir. Coconut oil will soften and melt as you mix it. Store in an air tight jar. The fragrant mix of lemon and coconut in this mixture is like a summer holiday in a jar.

This scrub is oil based, so it can be slippery in the shower.

Try Rainbow Breathing! Taking deep breaths when feelings get overwhelming is a practice that can be invaluable for all of us. When kids are feeling anxious or stressed this practice can help them find calm and regulate their nervous feelings. Using fun modalities like this Rainbow Breathing tool, can be a good way to introduce this practice to young people in a fun way that won’t make the practice seem too intimidating.
