Sidewalk Chalk Paint

I am not sure where I read it, but the phrase “let them be little” has stuck in my head. I really think that at this age and for many ages to come, keeping Rowan’s childhood intact is my biggest wish. Filling his days with as much play and wonder have become the benchmarks for a successful day in our family. Watching Rowan run outside, play in the mud, or create these crafty concoctions is pure joy, and makes us all feel like life is happening as is should. This should be life as usual for a kid. This recipe for sidewalk chalk paint filled an afternoon and fit the bill.
This was such a fun activity to make and to use. Your kids will love stiring the paint mixtures and watching the colors come to life. You can even take it a step further by mixing the primary colors to make new hues. Also, the paint goes on dark, but is bright and vibrant as it dries.
I was concerned about the paint rinsing off our patio, so I did rinse the paint off soon after it dried. It did rinse off, but I did need to scrub the sidewalk in some areas. I used washable paint but wonder if food coloring would have a different effect.
Sidewalk Chalk Paint
1/3 cup Water
1/3 cup Cornstarch
Washable Paint or Food Coloring
Fork for stirring
Measuring cup
Containters for paint
Add cornstarch to water and stir with a fork until smooth and the consistency of paint. Add a few drops of washable paint or food coloring and stir until desired color acheived. Pour colors into cups for easy painting.
