I made these for Rowan, and they have done wonders for our bath time routine. Normally, he fights me tooth and nail to go up for his bath every. single. evening., but, when I showed him my magic surprise filled bath bombs everything changed. And even better, the soothing lavender essential oil relaxes him while he bathes, win, win.
I also think these would make a interesting party favor. The kids could bring them home, and pop them in the bath to reveal a special surprise. Rowan had a blast dumping them into a big glass jar and watching them erupt. Try it.
SURPRISE FILLED BATH BOMBS
You will need:
4 oz Baking Soda
2 oz Corn Starch
2 oz Citric Acid
2 oz Epsom Salt
Witchhazel
5-10 Drops Essential Oil
2-3 Drops Natural Food Coloring
Flexible mold of your choice
Surprise filler, I used gems
Mix the dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Wisk until smooth. Add essential oil and food coloring to dry ingredients and wisk. Then add witch hazel to a spray bottle, and spritz mixture a few times. At this point, I got better results mixing with clean hands, as it better distributes the color. When the mixture just clumps together it is ready. You don’t want it too wet, as it will activate the bubbles prematurely.
Fill molds halfway with mix and press in firmly. Add little surprises, and then cover with remaining mixture. Press firmly into the mold. Let dry overnight at least 8 hours. Pop bath bombs out of molds and then let sit for another 4 hours.
