“Road Trip!” Leaflet

We moved to Southern California about 4 years ago after having lived in New York City for over 14 years, and then Connecticut for a brief 3 years. To put it mildly, this move was a big leap for me. My identity was firmly tied, enmeshed, and I thought, utterly dependent on the City. At the time, I believed it was the essence of who I was, and I relished in my ability to live happily in the big vastness that was and is New York. As a result, I was always very, very nervous about leaving. Even after moving to Connecticut, I had plans to frequent the city in order keep my spirit fed and my identity in check. I would introduce my son to its magic as well. He would grow up in a small New England town, while being exposed to the cultural diversity of a large metropolis. Yes, I had it all figured out. But in true fashion, life had other plans for me….

We have been in San Diego for 4 years, and I am just getting the hang of it. The year long sun, wavy/surfy beaches and the very (very!) relaxed people are growing on me. We take road trips now, and go camping (a bit). My son owns a wet suit, and we live a stones throw from the ocean. We are slowly converting, and who knows we may stay awhile.

The road trips are my son’s favorite. He loves packing up, and hitting the open road. He begs for them whenever he can. As much as he loves them, he gets bored on our longer journeys,  needs a little assistance in the entertainment department. This leaflet includes a little game we played on our trip to Oregon last year. It involves spotting cars in various colors which allows you to move along through the game. The first one to reach the end, wins. It may buy you some time until you get to the next rest stop.

Try Rainbow Breathing! Taking deep breaths when feelings get overwhelming is a practice that can be invaluable for all of us. When kids are feeling anxious or stressed this practice can help them find calm and regulate their nervous feelings. Using fun modalities like this Rainbow Breathing tool, can be a good way to introduce this practice to young people in a fun way that won’t make the practice seem too intimidating.
Hi friends! Barnes and Noble has a nice promotion running!
This was our view when we were in Scotland. It was so good to walk by this river and empty my mind. Scotland, you charmed our whole family and brought us some moments of peace and bonding that we really needed. Sound on😌. River Earn, Crief, Scotland.
