Fun Resolutions!

“You’ll never get bored when you try something new. There’s no limit to what you can do.”
Dr. Suess

The idea of setting goals or dreams for the New Year can be fun and add some mental guidance as we enter 2025. For kids, this can be a place to talk about new experiences and hopes. Kids can think about fun activities or new challenges they would like to shoot for. It can be a festive New Year’s Day activity and a way to set positive intentions moving forward.

SETTING INTENTIONS
Encourage kids to think about their past experiences, what they enjoyed in 2024 and what they might want to improve or elaborate on. Brainstorm ideas related to areas they want to focus on, such as school, hobbies, or personal growth.
Once they have some ideas, guide them to set specific and achievable goals. For example, instead of a vague goal like “get better at sports,” they might say, “practice soccer for 30 minutes twice a week.” It’s also helpful to make the goals measurable, so they can track their progress easily.
Encourage kids to share their resolutions with family and friends to create a support system. This way, they can motivate each other and hold one another accountable. Remind them that it’s perfectly fine to be flexible with their goals as the year goes on; adjustments can be made as needed.
Celebrating achievements, big or small, is important too. It reinforces positive behavior and keeps motivation high. Finally, suggest regular check-ins to review their progress and make any changes to their resolutions if necessary. This process can be a meaningful and enjoyable experience!
